This October, L’Oréal Professional Products Division (PPD) is bringing the next chapter of textured hair education to New York City with Texture Mastery Pro, a two-day immersive experience taking place October 7-8 at the new L’Oréal Academy East in Hudson Yards.
Powered by THE TEXTURE OF CHANGE™, L’Oréal Professional Products Division’s ongoing initiative to advance textured hair education and advocacy, Texture Mastery Pro will bring together 200 professional stylists, educators, industry leaders, advocates and creators for an experience designed to move textured hair education beyond the classroom and into hands-on practice.
This groundbreaking event will bring together seven L’Oréal PPD brands, including L’Oréal Professionnel, Redken, Color Wow, Matrix, Mizani, Kérastase, and Biolage, under one roof, all together teaching texture education for the first time. Across two days, attendees will experience thought leadership panels, hands-in-hair education, advanced look-and-learn sessions, and opportunities to connect with some of the industry’s leading voices.
THE TEXTURE OF CHANGE™ is helping to shape the future of professional beauty, through the Texture Education Collective (TEC) where L'Oréal PPD is a founding partner. TEC has worked to advance textured hair education within cosmetology schools and influence state licensing standards. In New York, this work contributed to new legislation strengthening textured hair education for the next generation of beauty professionals.
Texture Mastery Pro is the next step in that journey, bringing greater access to advanced textured hair education to the professionals already behind the chair today. By connecting established stylists with leading educators, artists and brands, TMP creates an opportunity to build on foundational education and turn it into real-world artistry, technique and confidence.
- Day 1 is designed for stylists, creators, and changemakers alike, exploring how the movement for greater textured hair education can ultimately translate to a better, more inclusive experience for consumers in the salon chair. Speakers confirmed include Olivia Hancock (Byrdie Beauty Editor), Marc Mendez, Dhairius Thomas, India Bertin (Founder of Hi Texture Salon), Asia Milia Ware (Beauty Editor @ NY Mag/The Cut), Kate Oechsle (Head of Education, Kerastase), Kayra Theodore, and Davontae Washington.
- Day 2 is designed for stylists to get a deeper immersion into texture artistry.
- Taking place at the new state-of-the-art L’Oréal Academy, the hands-on workshops will combine classroom-style learning with the opportunity to immediately put new techniques into practice alongside leading hair artists across the brands.
- Additional tastemakers and stylists confirmed include Jawara Wachoupe, Nai’vasha Grace, Tippi Shorter, Leysa Carrillo, and more.

L’Oréal PPD recognized a glaring gap in the professional beauty industry: More than 65% of people have textured hair, coily, curly and wavy, yet textured hair has historically been underrepresented in traditional cosmetology education.
Through THE TEXTURE OF CHANGE™ and the Texture Education Collective, L’Oréal PPD has made impactful strides working alongside industry partners to help address this gap at the education and licensing level, including supporting efforts that led to new textured hair education requirements in New York. But education cannot stop at the point of licensure. The professionals already serving clients today need continued access to the knowledge, techniques and artistry that allow them to confidently work with every hair type and texture.
That is where Texture Mastery Pro comes in. As the next evolution of THE TEXTURE OF CHANGE™, TMP extends the journey from changing what future professionals learn in school to empowering the professionals already in the salon with opportunities to deepen their skills, expand their perspective and bring that education directly to the chair.
