Ultraviolet was named Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year, and it’s not hard to understand why the vibrant hue resonated across the board. It’s characterized by depth, richness and a refreshing unexpectedness, imparting a sense of modernity and luxury. And this stunning creation from Megan Schipani (@shmeggsandbaconn) is the epitome of the trend with the dramatic, head-turning color on bold display. “I think violet will always be a popular color because it’s pretty universally flattering depending on the exact hue and it fades beautifully,” says Schipani who performs up to 10 color services like this per month. “Most of my clients come to me for creative color, and my creative color process usually takes up to 4 hours from start to finish.” For the full breakdown of this viral color smash hit, check out Schipani's how-to below.

Step-by-Step:
Lightener (Schwarzkopf Blonde Me and 20-volume with Brazilian Bond Builder):
• Lift the hair to a level 9/10 all over.
• Starting at the nape of the neck, take thin sections and apply Schwarzkopf Blonde Me with 20-volume developer and Brazilian Bond Builder 1/2 an inch from the root to the ends all over the head.
• Shampoo, rinse and dry.
• Apply Schwarzkopf Blonde Me and 20-volume with Brazilian Bond Builder all over the roots.
• Let process until it reaches a level 9/10.
• Shampoo, rinse, and skip conditioner.

Ultraviolet (equal parts Manic Panic Lie Locks and Pulp Riot Jam with Brazilian Bond Builder):
• Dry hair and apply a mixture of Manic Panic Lie Locks and Pulp Riot Jam to the entire head from root to ends with Brazilian Bond Builder.
• Shampoo with Sexy Hair Color Lock Shampoo and Conditioner.

Pro Tip:
It’s important to lift the hair to a level 9 or 10. The less warmth remaining in the hair, the brighter and truer this tone will be. The end result of applying this color to a completely blank canvas results in a bolder, dramatic look. Make sure to apply the color to dry hair and let it sit for at least 30 minutes to achieve this vibrant tone. Always follow a lightening color service with a good deep treatment.
