New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 is in full swing, and there’s no shortage of nail inspo coming off the runways. Here, a first look at some of our favorites created by essie backstage at the shows.

Playing off the nautical theme of Monse’s SS2019 collection, Rita Remark for essie, created two designs inspired by sails. “The first look is a white, angled tip shaped like a sail, while the other features two graphic lines,” says Remark. The designs will be worn as an accent nail on each hand. “With the help of a thin striping brush, this look is easily achieved, no tape or guides required,” she adds.

How-To:
1. Apply apricot cuticle oil to moisturize skin, then wipe the nail bed clean with polish remover.
2. Add one layer of here to stay base coat.
3. Apply one coat of mademoiselle for a clean and fresh look.
4. Using a striping brush dipped in blanc, draw a diagonal line from the outer edge of the nail down toward the tip. Fill in the negative space with polish.
5. On the other hand, draw a thin diagonal stripe from the edge of the nail down toward the tip, then create a short horizontal line from the center of the stripe out toward the edge of the nail bed.
6. Finish with speed.setter top coat.

For the KITH SS2019 show, Alicia Torello for essie created four different nail looks to spotlight each of the designer collaborations showcased. With the Tommy Hilfiger capsule, Torello featured the brand’s signature flag. “It’s a modern and graphic twist on recognizable hallmarks,” says Torello.

How-To:
1. Apply here to stay base coat.
2. Dip a striping brush in forever yummy and create a thick, horizontal stripe of color just past the center of the nail leaving the tip free of color.
3. Using a striping brush dipped in booties on broadway, craft a straight line along the red edge and fill in the tip of the nail.
4. To prevent streaking, wait five minutes for polish to dry and finish with speed.setter top coat for high shine.

The nail look at the Kate Spade SS2019 collection was inspired by the late designer’s now-legendary quote, “She left a little sparkle wherever she went.” As tribute to the fashion icon, Julie Kandalec for essie created a sparkly-yet-sophisticated manicure for the show.
